@Chris Holmes if you saw how bruised they got you wouldn’t think it was
fake!..
The women in this bout are breaking rules! Derby is not a fake sport, and
if this event is staged, then it is an insult to the sport! Derby is not
fake, if you dont belive me then find a local derby group and go to a
practice. You are ignorant for saying that it is or that staged derby is
better than the real thing. It is a very difficult sport that takes a great
deal of fitness and strategy. And I’d like to see any of you get on a pair
of skates and do what they do!

The acting was professional in those days and fun to watch. The modern
stuff is garbage on skates.

I was a very heavy roller derby fan in the late 1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s and
the mid 1990’s. I wondered whatever happened to the Roller Derby Games they
used to show on regular TV. I even tried in the ’70’s to organize a roller
derby team at my high school and hoped it spreaded to all the high schools
in the California area and become the latest sports activity for all high

My aunt Maddy was in the roller derby I often went and watched her skate in
sunnyside gardens.. I remember her going to skate in Virginia. I’m trying
to find out the name of the team. I was only five when I use to go watch
her so I don’t remember.

The Derby of the 60s and 70s and even the 50s (although I wasn’t a fan yet)
was the best. The athletes were highly skilled. I consider the all-girl
Roller Derby of today a cheap imitation…and although I’ve tried to follow
the league that skates in the Bay Area now, the skating is sub-par,
theatrical, and a total disappointment.

its rigged like wrestling. Nowadays, its no longer staged but back then,
they sometimes rehearsed the fights and have a predetermined winner.
You have to respect their skating ability and durability, but it’s fixed!
Just about every game is won by only a few points and you ever notice when
someone breaks a double block, both blockers unclasp their hands and they
score?
