Bonnie D.Stroir of the San Diego Derby Dolls breaks down how to do a power slide both on flat track and on banked track. This stop is great for making a really quick stop when skating at high speeds.

Your awesome !!! Thanks for all your post .
Who thought you how to skate derby? you took a once awesome sport
spectacle and craped all over every legend out there. And we where tough –
also could you get some men out there. Can you demonstrate a 5 stride?
I skated in SF and the Olympic and ROLLER GAMES. You have a great rack but
why don’t you toughen up and follow the real style. Tyoe in T-Birds vs –
Hawks Roller Derby, so the younger generation can see for them selves.
we used to skate and play derby in the 70’s/80’s, we would do that stop
going forward, that is what we called a
hockey stop”.
Not trying to troll here but this is good n all for learning how to chatter
your skates but in an athletic skate stop you leg should should not be out
side of your frame. Cause now you have nothing to plant off of after you
have stopped.
Well should say that far out of your frame
Nice 🙂 Awesome name too! Bonnie D Stroir
OCPHILLYPHIL STREET SKATES
T-T-T…
Sound efects!
Thank you
Now it’s called barking if u make the noise right
darn shes fast
is there a derby on flat field and one in this kind of curved field?
thsi chiks are s hott!
very good video thanks, we have been trying to do this the past few
practices
Awesome explanation, that stop looks scary as shit though! I wish I had the
opportunity to skate on a banked track!
the man who repair thar floor must love you!!
Flat track for life! but props to the banked
@AVincent: no quads work much better for roller derby, they are much more
manueverable and have more edges….actually positionally blocking and
hitting are not like hockey really at all
@qbanocb – Actually it’s a woman that repairs the floors. It has a pretty
think coat of lacquer. Lasts us a bout two years give or take some power
slides.
thats not a powerslide, thats hittin the E brake,
that’s not power slide, it were supposed to be with both legs
Crud crud crud crud….got it slow but cant pick up the speed…
*swoons*
HAWT!
Super no sabia como frenar al llegar al termino de una vereda muchas
gracias a ponerlo ahora en practica cool!!!
Actually stability. On rollerblades its way easier to get knocked on your
butt. Quads have more surface contact so its more stable when you get
slammed. Derby in rollerblades will only cause you to get hurt more
frequent, and though it is a rough sport we try to be as safe as possible.
@colesz24 you’re such a square.
Now that’s a real instructor!!!
This was so unbelievably helpful. Thanks for posting this.
Stop the train, huh? That seems a good think to mentalize. I’m learning
inline skating but I found this useful. Thanks!
do tatoos hurt?
I know there is tradion of using the roller skates but I wonder if it would
ever change to roller blades. I would think on 1 set of wheels you could
really get more leverage to support yourself when bumping into as in ice
hockey.
Okay, I want to see you do a vid of this without breaking something. Go
ahead, upload it.
We just did this stop at practice last night and I like it so much more
then the hockey stop. Similar for sure but I don’t end up with pulled groin
muscles like with the hockey stop!
@StoryTimeWithBonnieD Hmm maybe you’re right. I just remember growing up,
we all called the “hockey stop” a powerslide
I think t-stops, along with plows, are more in the category of gradual
stops (especially good for slowing down in a pack). Rapid stops (hockey,
tomahawk, etc…) are also really useful for getting back into play quickly
after going out of bounds or skating into a pack with a slow moving wall —
to avoid back blocking.
Quads are much better for not breaking your ankle when your slammed to the
ground at 15mph unlike roller blades. Also, roller derby is not just a
race, speed isn’t everything.
shes hot
Nice video, thanks
This isnt a powerslide… It’s a hockey stop, a powerslide is where both
feet break into the slide… Great toturial though 😀
It takes a lot of practice ans trust to do this haha
mdr
stop a train
lol who would do that
