Is it just me being misinformed, or has Derby been slowed down to a crawl?
I turn eighteen in a few months, and I’m really looking forward to trying
this out (especially after watching a whole load of amazing games on
youtube, were they outdayed or something?), but I will not be happy if
health and safety regulations have taken all the fun out if it. =/
snap er niks van
It was so weird to see skaters start at different whistles. I didn’t
realize when this video was uploaded at first and I haven’t played derby
like that in forever, haha!
I agree and thats the important thing. I just can’t help but be frustrated
with the style of play thats sweeping Roller Derby these days whether in
the US, Netherlands or anywhere else. Roller Derby is meant to be a fast
pace game.
blocking their own teammates?
It isn’t a lot like wip it 🙁
Song at the start is Black Gloves by Goose, heard it in Whip It :3
Why are most of the refs men?
Im in roller derby and i love it but we play much faster and rougher
Good job! Exciting to be able to watch your bout from here in the U.S.
I’m sorry, you’re questioning her grammar skills when your own are
significantly lacking? You asked two questions in your first comment and
didn’t use a single punctuation mark. You over used commas and didn’t
define sentences where they ought to be. If you’re going to try to win an
argument by dissing someone’s grammar, at least sort your own out first.
what the hell are they even doing?
I’m not fully aware about teams in germany…. i know there is one in
dresden (which also regularily has giant night skating events on the
streets), but dresden is a bit far to travel often, if you study in munich
(about 3h by car, 5h by train).
Do you happen to know if there is Derby in Germany or Austria as well? I
will be moving to Germany for school, and I really want to keep training
and tryout for a new team. I will be in Stuttgart or Munich. Even if it’s a
country close to there would be ok. I know Amsterdam is much farther north.
But, if you know of a way to get there without going broke I would love to
come watch some bouts. Though my dutch is not so good. Not that I cannot
learn fast if needed. =)
But the refs are MOSTLY men. I don’t see a comparison to that in the many
male dominated sports. For me it’s so sad because I thought rola derby was
about tough women kicking arse and ruling the ring. But after watching some
videos I’ve realized the men have got in there and made it about them yet
again. And the girls even dress up like dolls for them sometimes. Well done
anyway for all the good stuff about the sport. I’ll try and send you a vid
I found that put me off.
Its a (mainly) female sport, but the men do the reffing if they want to
join in.
not necessarily true, in NZ we have unisex derby.
Oh, I see the video that put me off is one of yours. It’s called: ‘Dimitri
finds out he can be involved in Roller Derby’. So the athletes are marked
as sex objects, what’s new in women’s sports?
woow
This version is by the Bloody Beetroots.
woww…that’s too far!! this is a sport, but as i can see here some of this
skaters aren’t to prepared to play roller derby.
Didn’t knew that. Awesome! So how does that work? Are there as many male as
female players on the track? As a team consists of 5 players, you can never
get it totally 50/50.
So Sexy
Very cool edit, and amazing intro
No
Then start one up!
A few years ago, there weren’t even any teams in the Netherlands so we’ve
really come a long way!
first: google second: you’re dumb
Stupid
Significantly lacking? ha because I left out a question mark? I think
you’re bored, and I suspect your life is significantly lacking any
importance or profundity if you took the time to type such an utterly
pointless and sleep inducing comment. “If you’re going to try to win an
argument” haha what argument? two random people on the internet calling one
another stupid, oh yes how compelling, its my deepest desire to “win”
mmm…if you don’t wanna know then make comments somewhere else, maybe with
respect.
No, you’re dumb, you should use some punctuation, and obtain a sense of
humour.
lmfao this comment is hilarious because the roller derby leagues I’m
involved in and every bout I’ve ever been to, this is not the case. Maybe
in SOME leagues, but not the majority by any means. We have a men’s team, a
women’s team, and a co-ed team. Men participate at practices, coach, and
ref just as equally as the women do. Everyone on the league is respected as
an athlete. It’s not about dolling up or showing off by any means. Put on a
pair of skates and come out if you don’t believe me.
Coming to a stand still hoping to form a wall as a strategy is not
exciting and doesn’t seem to work. I you don’t want jammer to pass you why
not just speed up. And if she tries to pass knock her on her ass. Roller
Derby was doing this a few years ago. Now everything has changed but not
for the better. Would make the game so much more exciting if it was at a
faster pace.
So that’s what Nebrass Kicker looks like. Keep hearing her on the Derby
Deeds Podcast.
First, what the fuck are the rules, and second, why do they all look like
lesbians.
Went to my first derby today, fucking loved it!! Going to an open training
session on Monday… Ex high school rugby player and I can already skate…
Should be a natural LOL. I wanna be a blocker a soooo bad!!!
im in roller derby also its fun
Obviously it isn’t about losing weight and being healthy. And I don’t see
much tactic or speed..
this is flat track derby, the derby in Whip It is banked track 🙂
I don’t totally agree with your point about men reffing and that it would
be a bad thing. The thing is, if you’re a dude and love roller derby,
you’ll have to be a ref, as male roller derby isn’t very alive at the
moment (yet). If you’re a woman and you love roller derby, you abviously
want to play it, in stead of reffing. So the fact that there are more guys
being a ref is just a result of that it’s an awesome sport for everyone,
but only woman can play.
Stuttgart Valley Rollergirls! Also, in Berlin there’s Bear City Roller
Derby.
are you allowed to punch people in the face?
